What is the difference between "formal" and "informal" education?
  1. Formal education: This refers to the structured system of learning in schools, colleges, and universities, following a specific curriculum and leading to a diploma.
  2. Informal education: This is learning that happens outside a structured classroom, such as through life experiences, hobbies, or self-study.

💡 À retenir : Formal = School/Diploma; Informal = Experience/Life.

Can you explain "vocational training"?

Vocational training (formation professionnelle) is education that focuses on providing students with specific technical skills and practical knowledge for a particular job or trade (like electricity, mechanics, or nursing), rather than general academic knowledge. This is very relevant for your STE stream.

💡 À retenir : Vocational training = Practical skills for a specific job.

How do I express purpose using "in order to"?

To express purpose (le but), you use $in\ order\ to + \text{infinitive}$. It explains why someone does something.

  • Example: She studies English $in\ order\ to$ work in an international company. It is more formal than just using "to".

💡 À retenir : $In\ order\ to + \text{Verbe à l'infinitif}$.

What is a "scholarship"?

A scholarship is a sum of money given to a student to help pay for their studies (tuition fees, books, etc.), usually based on academic excellence or financial need. It does not have to be paid back.

💡 À retenir : Scholarship = Money to help pay for school.

How can I use "so... that" in a sentence?

Use $so + \text{adjective} + that$ to show that a quality is so intense that it produces a specific result.

  • Example: The student was $so\ intelligent\ that$ he finished the exam in ten minutes. (L'étudiant était si intelligent qu'il a fini l'examen en dix minutes).

💡 À retenir : $So + \text{Adjectif} + That + \text{Résultat}$.
