📘 Fiche de cours

L'essentiel du cours

Ce chapitre traite du rôle des organisations internationales dans la gestion des problèmes mondiaux (paix, santé, éducation, droits de l'homme).

1. Les deux types d'organisations :

  • IGOs (Intergovernmental Organizations) : Organisations formées par des États (gouvernements).
    • Exemples : The United Nations (UN), The African Union (AU), The Arab League.
  • NGOs (Non-Governmental Organizations) : Organisations privées, indépendantes des gouvernements, souvent basées sur le volontariat.
    • Exemples : Doctors Without Borders (MSF), Amnesty International, Red Cross.

2. Les principales organisations de l'ONU (UN) :

  • UN (United Nations) : Maintains international peace and security.
  • WHO (World Health Organization) : Manages international public health.
  • UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) : Promotes education, science, and culture.
  • UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund) : Provides humanitarian and developmental aid to children worldwide.

3. Vocabulaire clé :

  • To cooperate / Cooperation : Coopérer / La coopération.
  • To maintain peace : Maintenir la paix.
  • Human rights : Les droits de l'homme.
  • To solve global issues : Résoudre les problèmes mondiaux.
  • To provide aid : Fournir de l'aide.
  • A summit : Un sommet (réunion de dirigeants).

Méthodes à maîtriser

1. Décrire une organisation (Writing skill) : Pour présenter une organisation dans une rédaction, utilisez la structure suivante :

  • Name & Acronym : "The World Health Organization (WHO) is..."
  • Type : "...an international organization (IGO)..."
  • Goal/Mission : "...whose main goal is to improve global health."
  • Action : "It works by providing medical aid and organizing vaccination campaigns."

2. Exprimer le but (Expressing purpose) :

  • To + infinitive : "The UN was created to maintain peace."
  • In order to + infinitive : "They cooperate in order to solve poverty."
  • So that + subject + can/will : "They provide aid so that children can survive."

Exemples corrigés

Question : Write a short paragraph describing UNESCO.

Réponse type : UNESCO is a specialized agency of the United Nations. Its main mission is to promote international cooperation through education, science, and culture. It works to protect world heritage sites and ensure that every child has access to quality education. By doing so, UNESCO helps to build peace in the minds of men and women.

Erreurs fréquentes

  • Confondre IGO et NGO : Ne dites pas que l'ONU est une NGO. L'ONU est une IGO car elle est composée d'États.
  • Oublier l'article "The" : On dit "The UN" ou "The WHO", pas juste "UN" ou "WHO".
  • Mauvaise préposition : On dit "cooperation between countries" (entre pays) ou "cooperation among nations" (parmi les nations).
