2. Grammar (La grammaire)

  • Expressing Purpose (Exprimer le but) : Pour expliquer "pourquoi" on fait une action, on utilise :
    • $to + \text{infinitive}$
    • $in\ order\ to + \text{infinitive}$
    • $so\ as\ to + \text{infinitive}$ Exemple : I went to Marrakech in order to visit the museums.
  • Expressing Intention (Exprimer l'intention) :
    • $be\ going\ to + \text{infinitive}$ (projet décidé)
    • $plan\ to + \text{infinitive}$ (planification) Exemple : I am going to travel to Spain next summer.
  • Expressing Experience (L'expérience de vie) : On utilise le Present Perfect pour parler d'un voyage sans préciser de date exacte.
    • $\text{Subject} + \text{have/has} + \text{Past\ Participle}$ Exemple : I have visited many countries.

Méthodes à maîtriser

  • Décrire un voyage : Utiliser l'ordre chronologique (First, Then, After that, Finally) et le passé simple pour les actions précises.
  • Exprimer le but : Ne jamais utiliser "for + infinitive". Utilisez toujours $to$ ou $in\ order\ to$.
  • Différencier le passé : Utilisez le Past Simple pour une date précise (Last year, in 2022) et le Present Perfect pour une expérience générale (I have been to...).

Exemples corrigés

  • Transformation (Purpose) : Question : He studied hard. He wanted to pass the exam. (Use "so as to") Réponse : He studied hard so as to pass the exam.
  • Tense choice (Experience vs Specific time) : Question : I (visit) London in 2015. Réponse : I visited London in 2015. (Car la date "2015" est précise).

Erreurs fréquentes

  • Erreur 1 : I went to the airport for catch my flight. $\rightarrow$ Correction : I went to the airport to catch my flight. (On utilise $to$ + verbe, pas $for$ + verbe).
