L'essentiel du cours
Ce chapitre porte sur la protection et la valorisation de l'héritage culturel. Il se divise en deux axes principaux : le vocabulaire thématique et les structures grammaticales de la cause, de la conséquence et du but.
1. Vocabulaire thématique (Vocabulary)
- Cultural Heritage: L'héritage culturel.
- Tangible Heritage: L'héritage matériel (ex: monuments, buildings, artifacts, historical sites, ancient cities).
- Intangible Heritage: L'héritage immatériel (ex: traditions, customs, oral history, music, crafts, festivals, recipes).
- To preserve / To protect / To conserve: Préserver / Protéger / Conserver.
- To promote / To value: Promouvoir / Valoriser.
- To damage / To destroy: Endommager / Détruire.
- Identity: L'identité.
- Tourism / Economic growth: Le tourisme / La croissance économique.
2. Grammaire (Grammar)
- Expressing Purpose (Le but):
- $to + \text{infinitive}$ (ex: We visit museums to learn about history.)
- $in\ order\ to + \text{infinitive}$ (ex: We must protect sites in order to save our identity.)
- $so\ as\ to + \text{infinitive}$ (ex: They restore old buildings so as to attract tourists.)
- Expressing Cause (La cause):
- $because + \text{clause (sujet + verbe)}$ (ex: We love our heritage because it is unique.)
- $because\ of + \text{noun/noun phrase}$ (ex: The site is famous because of its architecture.)
- $due\ to + \text{noun/noun phrase}$ (ex: The monument was damaged due to bad weather.)
Méthodes à maîtriser
- Pour rédiger un paragraphe sur l'importance du patrimoine :
- Introduction : Définir brièvement le patrimoine (ex: Cultural heritage is our link to the past.).
- Développement : Utiliser des arguments avec des connecteurs de cause/but (ex: We should protect it because... / We preserve it in order to...). Mentionner l'aspect économique (tourisme).
- Conclusion : Donner une recommandation (ex: In conclusion, everyone must respect our traditions.).
- Pour transformer une phrase (Cause $\rightarrow$ But) :
- Si la phrase exprime une intention $\rightarrow$ utiliser $to / in\ order\ to$.
- Si la phrase exprime une raison $\rightarrow$ utiliser $because / because\ of$.
Exemples corrigés
Exemple 1 (Grammaire - Purpose) : Question : Rewrite using "so as to": They study old manuscripts. They want to understand the past. Réponse : They study old manuscripts so as to understand the past.
Exemple 2 (Grammaire - Cause) : Question : Rewrite using "because of": The city is beautiful because it has many historical monuments. Réponse : The city is beautiful because of its many historical monuments.
Erreurs fréquentes
- Confusion Tangible/Intangible : Ne pas confondre un bâtiment (tangible) avec une danse traditionnelle (intangible).
- Erreur de structure avec "Because of" : Utiliser un verbe après "because of".
- Faux : $\text{Because of it is old...}$
- Juste : $\text{Because of its age...}$
- Oubli du "to" : Dire "in order preserve" au lieu de "in order to preserve".
