📘 Fiche de cours

L'essentiel du cours

Ce chapitre se concentre sur la relation entre l'homme et son environnement. Il est divisé en deux axes principaux : le problème (la pollution) et la solution (la protection).

1. Vocabulary (Le lexique)

  • Environmental Problems: Pollution (air, water, soil), Global warming, Climate change, Deforestation, Greenhouse effect, Endangered species, Waste, Overconsumption.
  • Causes: Fossil fuels, Industrial waste, Exhaust fumes, Cutting down trees, Plastic usage.
  • Solutions/Actions: Recycling, Reforestation, Renewable energy (solar, wind, hydro), Protecting habitats, Reducing carbon footprint, Sustainable development.

2. Grammar (La grammaire)

  • Expressing Cause (La cause) :
    • $Because + \text{subject} + \text{verb}$ (ex: Because the air is polluted...)
    • $Because \text{ of} / \text{Due to} + \text{noun/noun phrase}$ (ex: Due to air pollution...)
  • Expressing Purpose (Le but) :
    • $\text{To} / \text{In order to} / \text{So as to} + \text{infinitive}$ (ex: We plant trees in order to fight global warming.)
  • Expressing Result (Le résultat) :
    • $\text{So} + \text{adjective} + \text{that}$ (ex: The weather is so hot that animals die.)
    • $\text{Such} + \text{noun phrase} + \text{that}$ (ex: It is such a big problem that we must act.)

Méthodes à maîtriser

  1. Rédaction d'un paragraphe (Writing) : Pour parler d'écologie, utilisez la structure Problème $\rightarrow$ Cause $\rightarrow$ Conséquence $\rightarrow$ Solution.
  2. Utilisation des connecteurs : Ne faites pas de phrases isolées. Utilisez First, Second, Moreover, Consequently, Therefore pour lier vos idées.
  3. Transformation de phrases : Apprenez à passer d'une structure de cause ($Because$) à une structure de cause avec un nom ($Due \text{ to}$).

Exemples corrigés

Exemple 1 : Transformation (Cause)

  • Question : Rewrite using "Due to": "The oceans are dirty because people throw plastic in them."
  • Réponse : "Due to people throwing plastic in the oceans, they are dirty." (ou "Due to plastic waste, the oceans are dirty.")

Exemple 2 : Purpose (Le but)

  • Question : Combine: "We use solar energy. We want to reduce pollution."
  • Réponse : "We use solar energy in order to reduce pollution."

Erreurs fréquentes

  • Confondre "Because" et "Because of" :
    • ❌ Because the pollution... (Faux)
    • ✅ Because of the pollution... (Correct : "of" est suivi d'un nom).
  • Oublier l'infinitif après "In order to" :
    • ❌ In order to protecting... (Faux)
    • ✅ In order to protect... (Correct).
  • Confusion entre "Pollution" et "Pollute" :
    • Pollution est le nom (le phénomène).
    • Pollute est le verbe (l'action).

Which of these is a renewable energy source?

❓ Questions fréquentes

Chno lferq bin "because" o "because of"?

C'est une erreur très courante. Voici la règle simple :

  1. Because est suivi d'une phrase complète (Sujet + Verbe). Exemple : We stay home because it is raining.
  2. Because of est suivi uniquement d'un groupe nominal (un nom). Exemple : We stay home because of the rain.

💡 À retenir : $Because + \text{Phrase}$ / $Because \text{ of} + \text{Nom}$.

Kifach nktb paragraph 3la l'environnement f l'examen?

Pour réussir ton paragraphe, suis ce plan en 4 étapes :

  1. Introduction : Présente le sujet (ex: Today, the environment is facing many problems.).
  2. Causes : Explique pourquoi (ex: This is due to industrial waste and deforestation.).
  3. Effects : Explique les conséquences (ex: As a result, global warming is increasing.).
  4. Solutions : Propose des idées (ex: To save our planet, we must recycle more.).

💡 À retenir : Utilise des connecteurs (First, Also, Finally) pour lier tes étapes.

Wach darori n7fed ga3 l'vocabulaire dyal ecology?

Il n'est pas nécessaire de tout apprendre par cœur, mais tu dois maîtriser les "mots-clés" (keywords).

  1. Apprends les noms (pollution, climate change, recycling).
  2. Apprends les verbes d'action (to protect, to reduce, to destroy, to save).
  3. Apprends les adjectifs (renewable, endangered, harmful).

💡 À retenir : Concentre-toi sur les mots qui permettent de construire des causes et des solutions.

What is the difference between "renewable" and "non-renewable" energy?
  1. Renewable energy: Energy that comes from natural sources that never run out, like the sun (solar), wind, or water.
  2. Non-renewable energy: Energy that comes from sources that will eventually disappear, like oil, coal, and gas.

💡 À retenir : Renewable = infinite / Non-renewable = limited.

How can I express the purpose of an action?

You can use three main structures:

  1. To + verb: I recycle to save the planet.
  2. In order to + verb: We plant trees in order to clean the air.
  3. So as to + verb: They use solar panels so as to reduce electricity bills.

💡 À retenir : All these mean "pour" or "dans le but de".

What is the "Carbon Footprint"?

A carbon footprint is the total amount of greenhouse gases (including carbon dioxide and methane) that are generated by our actions (driving cars, using electricity, eating meat).

💡 À retenir : Smaller footprint = better for the environment.

How do we use "So... that" and "Such... that"?

They both express a result, but the structure changes:

  1. So + Adjective + that: The pollution is so bad that we cannot breathe.
  2. Such + (Adjective) + Noun + that: It is such bad pollution that we cannot breathe.

💡 À retenir : Use "So" with adjectives and "Such" with nouns.

What are "Endangered species"?

Endangered species are animals or plants that are at risk of disappearing forever (extinction) because there are very few of them left in the wild.

💡 À retenir : Endangered = at risk of extinction.

What is "Sustainable Development"?

It is a way of organizing society so that it can exist in the long term. It means meeting our current needs (food, energy) without destroying the resources for future generations.

💡 À retenir : Sustainable = balance between economy, society, and environment.

Give me some examples of "Greenhouse gases".

The most common ones are:

  1. Carbon dioxide ($CO_2$)
  2. Methane ($CH_4$)
  3. Nitrous oxide ($N_2O$)

💡 À retenir : These gases trap heat in the atmosphere.
