📘 Fiche de cours

L'essentiel du cours

Ce chapitre se concentre sur la manière d'exprimer ses goûts, ses activités de détente et la gestion du temps libre.

1. Vocabulary (Le lexique)

  • Leisure activities (Activités de loisirs) : Reading, swimming, hiking, gardening, painting, photography, traveling, gaming.
  • Entertainment (Divertissement) : Watching movies, listening to music, attending concerts, going to the theater, streaming services.
  • Adjectives to describe activities (Adjectifs pour décrire) :
    • Positive: $Relaxing$ (relaxant), $exciting$ (excitant), $fun$ (amusant), $educational$ (éducatif), $engaging$ (captivant).
    • Negative: $Boring$ (ennuyeux), $tiring$ (fatigant), $waste\ of\ time$ (perte de temps).

2. Grammar (La grammaire) Le point clé est l'utilisation des verbes de préférence suivis du gérondif (forme en $-ing$). La structure est : $Subject + Verb\ of\ preference + Verb(-ing) + Complement$.

  • Verbs of preference : $like, love, enjoy, prefer, dislike, hate, can't\ stand$ (ne pas supporter).
  • Exemple : $I\ enjoy\ playing\ video\ games.$ (J'apprécie jouer aux jeux vidéo).

3. Expressing Opinion (Exprimer son opinion)

  • In my opinion, ... (À mon avis, ...)
  • I think that... (Je pense que...)
  • From my point of view, ... (De mon point de vue, ...)

Méthodes à maîtriser

1. Décrire un hobby : Pour parler d'une activité, utilisez la structure : Nom de l'activité + Adjectif + Raison.

  • Exemple : "I love photography because it is creative and relaxing."

2. Comparer deux activités : Utilisez $prefer...to...$ ou $would\ rather...than...$.

  • Exemple : "I prefer reading books to watching TV."

Exemples corrigés

Exemple 1 : Transformer une phrase simple en phrase complexe.

  • Question : "I like music." (Utilisez un adjectif et une raison).
  • Réponse : "I love listening to music because it is very relaxing after school."

Exemple 2 : Correction grammaticale.

  • Question : "She enjoys to watch movies." (Corrigez l'erreur).
  • Réponse : "She enjoys watching movies." (Après enjoy, on utilise toujours la forme en $-ing$).

Erreurs fréquentes

  • Oublier le $-ing$ : Dire "I hate cook" au lieu de "I hate cooking".
  • Confondre l'adjectif en $-ed$ et $-ing$ : Dire "The movie is bored" (Le film est ennuyé) au lieu de "The movie is boring" (Le film est ennuyeux).
  • Mauvaise préposition : Dire "I am interested at music" au lieu de "I am interested in music".

🎯 Leisure and entertainment

1/4

What is the synonym of "leisure time"?

❓ Questions fréquentes

Is "gaming" a good leisure activity?

It depends on the opinion!

  1. Pros: "It can be social and improve reflexes."
  2. Cons: "It can be a waste of time if done too much."

💡 À retenir : In an exam, always give both sides (pros and cons) to show your English level.

What is the opposite of "boring"?

The most common opposites are:

  1. Interesting (intéressant).
  2. Exciting (excitant).
  3. Fascinating (fascinant).

💡 À retenir : Always check if you are describing the thing (boring) or the feeling (bored).

Chno hiya l-farq bin "leisure" w "entertainment"?

Bien que proches, il y a une nuance :

  1. Leisure (les loisirs) : C'est votre temps libre, le temps où vous ne travaillez pas (ex: l'après-midi après les cours).
  2. Entertainment (le divertissement) : Ce sont les activités spécifiques que vous faites pour vous amuser (ex: regarder un film, aller à un concert).

💡 À retenir : Le leisure est le moment, l'entertainment est l'activité.

Kifach n-exprimer l-opinion dyali 3la l-hobby dyali b l-onliya?

Pour exprimer ton opinion de manière élégante en anglais, utilise ces structures :

  1. Commencer par une expression d'opinion : "In my opinion, ..." ou "I believe that...".
  2. Utiliser des adjectifs précis : Ne dis pas juste "It is good", dis "It is fascinating" ou "It is rewarding".
  3. Donner une raison avec "because" : "I think hiking is great because it helps me stay healthy."

💡 À retenir : Opinion + Activité + Adjectif + Because + Raison.

Wash darori n-dir "-ing" m3a "like" w "love"?

Oui, c'est la règle la plus courante pour parler de tes goûts généraux.

  1. La règle : $Verb\ of\ preference + V(-ing)$.
  2. Exemple : "I love swimming" (J'adore nager).
  3. Note : Tu peux aussi dire "I like to swim", mais dans les examens, l'usage du gérondif ($-ing$) est souvent attendu pour parler d'une passion.

💡 À retenir : Pour parler d'un hobby, privilégie la forme en $-ing$.

What is the difference between "hobby" and "leisure activity"?
  1. A hobby is a regular activity done for pleasure during one's leisure time (e.g., collecting stamps).
  2. A leisure activity is a broader term that includes anything you do when you are not working (e.g., sleeping, walking, or playing sports).

💡 À retenir : All hobbies are leisure activities, but not all leisure activities are hobbies.

How can I describe a movie that I really liked?

Use strong adjectives instead of just "good":

  1. "The movie was gripping" (captivant).
  2. "It was hilarious" (très drôle).
  3. "The plot was fascinating" (l'intrigue était fascinante).

💡 À retenir : Avoid "very good"; use "amazing", "wonderful", or "excellent".

Can I use "enjoy" with "to + infinitive"?

No. "Enjoy" is strictly followed by the gerund ($-ing$).

  1. Incorrect: "I enjoy to play football."
  2. Correct: "I enjoy playing football."

💡 À retenir : $Enjoy + V(-ing)$ is a fixed rule.

What are some indoor leisure activities?

Indoor activities are done inside a building:

  1. Reading books.
  2. Playing video games.
  3. Cooking.
  4. Watching TV.

💡 À retenir : "Indoor" = inside.

What are some outdoor leisure activities?

Outdoor activities are done outside:

  1. Cycling.
  2. Gardening.
  3. Hiking.
  4. Playing football in the park.

💡 À retenir : "Outdoor" = outside.

How do I say "Je ne supporte pas le bruit" in English?

You can use two ways:

  1. "I can't stand noise." (Common)
  2. "I hate noise." (Stronger)

💡 À retenir : "Can't stand" is a very useful expression for this chapter.

What is the synonym of "fun"?

Depending on the context, you can use:

  1. Enjoyable (agréable).
  2. Entertaining (divertissant).
  3. Amusing (amusant).

💡 À retenir : "Enjoyable" is more formal than "fun".

How to express a preference between two things?

Use the structure: $Subject + prefer + [Activity\ A] + to + [Activity\ B]$.

  • Example: "I prefer watching movies to reading books."

💡 À retenir : Use "to" for comparison with "prefer", not "than".

What is the opposite of "relaxing"?
  1. Stressful (stressant).
  2. Tiring (fatigant).
  3. Exhausting (épuisant).

💡 À retenir : Use "stressful" for activities and "stressed" for people.
