📘 Fiche de cours
L'essentiel du cours
1. Vocabulary: Education & Learning
Pour traiter ce chapitre, vous devez maîtriser le lexique lié au système éducatif et à l'apprentissage :
- Types of education: Formal education (school/university), Informal education (life experience), Non-formal education (workshops).
- Educational institutions: School, High school, University, Vocational training center (important pour la filière Éco), Institute.
- Key terms:
- Literacy / Illiteracy: Alphabétisation / Analphabétisme.
- Scholarship / Grant: Bourse d'études.
- Dropout: Un élève qui abandonne l'école.
- Curriculum: Programme scolaire.
- Compulsory education: Éducation obligatoire.
- Skills: Compétences (hard skills/soft skills).
- Lifelong learning: Apprentissage tout au long de la vie.
2. Grammar: Expressing Purpose and Result
A. Expressing Purpose (Le but)
On utilise ces structures pour expliquer pourquoi on fait une action.
- $\text{to} + \text{infinitive}$
- $\text{in order to} + \text{infinitive}$
- $\text{so as to} + \text{infinitive}$
- $\text{so that} + \text{subject} + \text{can / could / will / would} + \text{verb}$
B. Expressing Result (Le résultat/la conséquence)
On utilise ces structures pour montrer l'effet d'une situation.
- $\text{so} + \text{adjective/adverb} + \text{that} + \text{clause}$
- $\text{such} + (\text{a/an}) + \text{adjective} + \text{noun} + \text{that} + \text{clause}$
Méthodes à maîtriser
- La distinction Purpose vs Result : Demandez-vous si la phrase exprime une intention (but) ou une conséquence (résultat).
- La structure de la phrase : Après "so that", il faut obligatoirement un sujet et un auxiliaire modal ($can, could, \dots$). Après "in order to", on utilise la base verbale.
- Rédaction (Writing) : Pour parler de l'éducation, utilisez des connecteurs logiques comme Furthermore, Moreover, Consequently, On the other hand.
Exemples corrigés
- Purpose: He studies hard $\text{in order to}$ pass his exams. (Il étudie dur pour réussir ses examens).
- Result (so): The exam was $\text{so}$ difficult $\text{that}$ many students failed. (L'examen était si difficile que beaucoup d'élèves ont échoué).
- Result (such): It was $\text{such a}$ difficult exam $\text{that}$ many students failed. (C'était un examen si difficile que...).
Erreurs fréquentes
- Confusion de structure : Utiliser "so that" suivi d'un infinitif.
- ❌ He works hard so that to earn money.
- ✅ He works hard $\text{in order to}$ earn money.
- Oubli de l'article avec "such" :
- ❌ It was such difficult exam...
- ✅ It was $\text{such a}$ difficult exam...
- Confusion entre "so" et "such" :
- ❌ The book was such interesting that...
- ✅ The book was $\text{so}$ interesting $\text{that}$...
